Singapore Airlines and Virgin Australia are introducing the world's first inter-loyalty programme conversion system.
SIA KrisFlyer and Virgin Australia Velocity Frequent Flyer members will from November be able to convert their miles and points between both programmes.
Other benefits will include providing members with access to upgrades and seat redemption across the two airlines' combined domestic and international network.
So, for instance, KrisFlyer members who convert their miles can benefit from Velocity's range of non-flight redemption rewards.
Both airlines will introduce an enhanced online booking system that will allow Velocity Frequent Flyer members to easily redeem flights on SIA and SilkAir, and vice versa for KrisFlyer members on Virgin Australia flights.
KrisFlyer members will receive the following benefits:
- Ability to redeem across all classes of travel on Virgin Australia, including premium econom
- Ability to earn status credits on domestic, Trans-Tasman and Pacific Islands codeshare flights operated by Virgin Australia
Velocity Frequent Flyer members receive these benefits:
- A reduction in the Velocity points required for reward seats on SIA
- Ability to earn points on all fare classes when travelling with SIA and Silk Air
Mak Swee Wah, SIA's executive vice president commercial, said: "This latest enhancement will increase the benefits to KrisFlyer members, providing more value to miles accrued when travelling on Singapore Airlines and Silk Air with a wider range of redemption options."
Neil Thompson, Velocity Frequent Flyer's CEO, added: "Enhancing reciprocal reward and recognition for our most frequent flyers will enable us to deliver them even greater benefits when flying domestically and internationally across our combined networks."
SIA and Virgin Australia launched the first phase of their alliance three years ago with interline agreements and reciprocal lounge access (see news, August 2011).
