Shangri-La Tianjin to open its doors

11 Jun 2014

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has announced its latest property will open in Tianjin, China on August 8.

Located in the new development area of Hedong District, the hotel is a part of the upcoming Tianjin Kerry Centre, which includes a shopping mall with dining and entertainment options, a 1,700sqm Kids Adventure Zone and an ice-skating rink.

The hotel is a 30-minute drive from Tianjin Binhai International Airport, ten minutes from Tianjin Railway Station, and five minutes from the central business district.

All 304 guestrooms and suites have floor-to-ceiling windows, offering views of the city’s famous Haihe River and the colonial architecture lining the riverbank. Room sizes start at 48sqm, featuring natural shades of light teakwood, gold and sea blue.

Thirty-nine of the rooms will be used as serviced apartments, ranging from studios to one and two-bedrooms, available for mid to long-term accommodation.

Large banquet and meeting facilities are also available, including a 1,956sqm Grand Ballroom for up to 1,700 people; a 380sqm Junior Ballroom featuring a spacious outdoor terrace with a view of the city and river; and eight function rooms of various sizes for celebrations, business meetings and cocktail receptions.

The hotel also offers two restaurants for guests. Equipped with 12 private dining rooms, the Shang Palace restaurant will be headed by executive Chinese chef Oliver Lai from Hong Kong, presenting not only Cantonese food, but also bringing the concept of mixing traditional and new Tianjin cuisine.

Meanwhile, Café Yun is an all-day dining buffet restaurant, featuring chefs in six theatre kitchens taking requests from guests, offering international and local street cuisine and using fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced locally and overseas.

Recreational facilities are also available for guests. There will be a 24-hour gymnasium filled with a range of cardio and weight equipment from LifeFitness; a temperature-controlled indoor swimming pool on the third floor designed with floor-to-ceiling windows facing the river side; and two tennis courts on the rooftop podium - making it the only hotel in the city to offer tennis facilities.

Bookings are now available with rates starting from RMB888 (US$142.5), including breakfast and a 20 per cent discount on laundry and the spa.
