Shandong Airlines orders 50 B737s

25 Apr 2014

Shandong Airlines has signed an agreement with Boeing for 50 B737s including 16 of the NG variant and 34 from the MAX line. The first delivery is set for 2016.

“Our enduring partnership with Shandong Airlines goes back to the carrier’s beginning and we are proud the B737 has been part of their success,” said Ihssane Mounir, vice president of sales and marketing for Northeast Asia, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. The airline is now operating 67 B737s, so if the order is fully delivered in 2020 as scheduled, the carrier's fleet size will exceed 140.

The new B737s will be used mainly for domestic flights, on routes between Shandong and cities such as Xiamen and Chongqing. But international routes are being considered, including Japan, South Korea and other Asian countries.
