Lufthansa launches Home Tag service

Lufthansa has launched a self-service baggage tag option for passengers flying between the carrier’s base in Frankfurt and Tokyo-Narita.

Known as Home Tag, the service allows customers on selected flights to print out their own tags for checked-in luggage at home. This means that passengers simply drop the bags off directly at the dedicated counter or the self-service machines at the airport.

It all starts when customers check in online via Lufthansa’s official website. Upon doing so, they will receive a Home Tag for their outward and return flights, along with their boarding passes. The Home Tag will consist of all the typical information one finds on a standard baggage tag, including the flight route, passenger name and the baggage item number, which is also printed as a barcode.

After printing the Home Tag, customers can make their way to the airport where they will be able to obtain Home Tag holders which they can fix onto their baggage. The final step is to check in their bags at the baggage-drop counter, or one of the self-service machines.

While the service is currently only available on the Frankfurt–Tokyo (Narita) route, Lufthansa expects to launch it onto other routes to Asia and the US.
