China Southern has taken delivery of a new Boeing B777-300ER aircraft, the first of five deliveries in 2014, to be followed by another five by 2016. With the delivery of the aircraft, the airline plans to begin a direct service between Guangzhou and New York in August (see here).
The new aircraft can accommodate 309 passengers in four classes - four first class and 32 business seats in 1-2-1 a configuration; 44 premium economy arranged 2-4-2; and 227 economy seats in 3-3-3 configuration.
First and business class is equipped with Thales TopSeries AVANT in-flight entertainment and connectivity IFEC system. Based on the Android operating system, passengers will benefit from the system’s HD design touch screen and unique TOUCH PMU handset which allows passengers to play numerous interactive games. System programmes are offered in five languages: English, Simplified Chinese, French, Japanese and Korean. Beyond on-demand entertainment, passengers have a wide selection of applications including interactive 3D Maps, 12 games, flight connect information, e-books, e-shopping, and Picture Viewer.
First class
Seats can recline 180 degrees, with 82-inch pitch and 33-inch seat width, 1.52 metres high suite, along with a 23 inch HD entertainment screen with Touch PMU handset.
Business class
Seats can be adjusted into a fully flat bed of 76-inch length and 29-inch bed width, as well as 15.4-inch entertainment screen.
Premium economy class
It has been designed to meet the requirements of passengers who need extra space. This class provides seating in a fixed structure that ensures more privacy. It has a greater space with 38-inch pitch. When reclined, the seat-pan moves forward and a 123-degree reclined angle is provided. Other features include cocktail table, footrest, a 10.6-inch television, an in-seat power outlet, a multi-port connector for personal devices, LED light and stowage space.
Economy class
Configured with adjustable headrest and footrest, it is designed with 32 inch pitch and a 19-inch width. All seats are fitted with 8.9 inch entertainment screens and USB port.
