Changi appoints Terminal 4 construction contractor

3 Jan 2014 by Clement Huang

Changi Airport Group (CAG) has officially announced that it has selected Takenaka Corporation for the construction of the new Terminal 4 (T4). The contract is worth S$985 million (US$777 million), and follows a tender that saw five different companies submitting proposals.

Takenaka Corporation is no stranger to the construction of airports, having assumed responsibility for numerous projects including Narita International Airport, Suvarnabhumi Airport, and Changi Terminal 1. The company was also involved in the upgrading of Changi Terminal 2 in 2006.

As part of the construction of T4, CAG and Takenaka Corporation will be working closely to refine the initial design of T4 (see here) and develop:

- A new passenger terminal building, measuring 195,000sqm, that will enable up to 16 million passenger movements per annum

- A multi-storey car park and open-air car park that will cater for up to 1,500 vehicles

- A two-storey taxi holding area

- Improvements to the road infrastructure to ensure better vehicular movement to and from the terminal

- A bridge that will enable buses and other airside vehicles to move from T4 to remote aircraft stands being built at a land plot south of Terminal 3

- A 68-metre-high control tower

Takenaka Corporation is expected to commence construction in the beginning of 2014, with T4 scheduled to open in 2017.
