Emirates and Qantas have enhanced their partnership by establishing new schedules and routes between New Zealand and Australia.
To provide better connections, Qantas has retimed its Christchurch-Sydney service, and will launch a new Perth–Auckland route. Emirates, meanwhile, will be introducing the A380 on its Auckland flights in October. In the same month, Emirates’ trans-Tasman services will start being operated by both an A380 and a B777-300ER.
These updates will allow the airlines to offer numerous connections to New Zealand, said Qantas chief executive officer Alan Joyce. “The new Qantas and Emirates schedule offers around 130 services per week from Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington and Queenstown across the Tasman to a joint network covering more than 175 destinations in Australia, Asia, the Middle East, North Africa, the UK and Europe,” he said.
The tie-up between the two airlines, which began at the end of 2012, has seen Emirates attract more connecting traffic in Australasia, and Dubai serving as a new hub for Qantas’ flights in Europe (see here). The two have also introduced code sharing, aligned fares and frequent flyer benefits to customers of both airlines.
