China Southern Airlines B787: What you need to know

27 Jul 2013

China Southern is the first Chinese airline to operate the B787.

The carrier took delivery of its first Dreamliner on June 2 this year, shortly after the Chinese government approved the aircraft's use in May (see here).

It inaugurated the B787 on the Guangzhou to Beijing route on June 7, and Guangzhou to Shanghai on July 8.

The airline has two Dreamliners in its fleet, with eight more scheduled to arrive gradually in two years' time.

The B787 operates 14 times a week on both the Beijing and Shanghai routes. In October, the A330-200 currently used on the London and Auckland routes will be replaced by the state-of-the-art aircraft (see here).

The Dreamliner has four first class seats in 1-2-1 configuration; 24 business class seats in 2-2-2 configuration; and 200 economy class seats in 3-3-3 configuration, making a total of 228.
