ANA to increase flight frequency to Myanmar

24 Jul 2013 by Clement Huang

ANA has announced that it will enhance its service to Myanmar starting in September.

The Japanese carrier will increase the number of flights it operates between Tokyo-Narita and Yangon airport in Myanmar from three to seven a week. As a result, starting this September, there will be a daily service for the route.

The seat capacity will also be further increased by replacing the current B737-700ER used for the operation to a larger B767-300ER. Whereas the B737 only offers 38 seats in an all-business class configuration, the B767 will feature a 2-class configuration with 35 seats in business class and 167 in economy class. The daily flight will depart Tokyo-Narita at 1030 and arrive in Yangon at 1510. The return leg will depart at 2145 and reach Narita at 0650 the following day.

ANA states that it expects strong economic growth from Myanmar in the coming years and, therefore, aims to capitalise on the projected increase demand. Myanmar, often referred to as "the last frontier in Asia", is becoming an increasingly popular destination with numerous airlines having launched flights there in recent years. Both China Airlines and Korean Air have increased services to the region last year (see here), while Dragonair started flying to Yangon earlier this year (see here).
