The Corinthia Hotel London has announced that it has installed UnionPay – China’s dominant credit and debit card system – to cater to the large Chinese travel market.
The flagship hotel, housed in a restored Victorian property, opened in 2010 (see story here) replacing the former Metropole Hotel.
The Corinthia London is the latest hotel to join the wave of initiatives launched by several other hotel group saimed to appeal to one of the world’s largest travel markets, including Hilton Worldwide (see story here), Marriott (see story here) and IHG (see story here). It also coincides with Visit Britain’s launch of the “Welcome China” scheme to accommodate Chinese travellers in the UK, the number of which increased by 20 per cent last year (see story here).
