Dubai International to refurbish Terminal 1

14 Jan 2013 by BusinessTraveller

Dubai International airport is to refurbish its Terminal 1, in order to “provide passengers with improved service and accessibility” and offer “a vastly improved travelling experience”.

The project will add “more efficient and streamlined baggage screening” in the departures hall, and will see check-in desks replaced, baggage systems upgraded, and public areas modernised.

The terminal’s arrivals hall will also be reconfigured and expanded, and the immigration hall will be refurbished “to improve passenger flow and reduce processing times for arriving passengers”.

The works are scheduled to start in the first quarter of this year, with completion expected by the end of 2014.

The refurbished terminal will be linked to the forthcoming Concourse D (due to open in 2015) by a new elevated train system.

Dubai International recently conducted a test run for its new Terminal 3 A380 concourse (see online news December 17, 2012), which has since opened four of its 20 gates under a phased opening this month.
