Hong Kong eateries team up for Restaurant Week

Hong Kong-based online dining guide DiningCity is organising another Restaurant Week in the city from July 9-15, with 70 restaurants offering special deals and exclusive menus.

Various restaurants having received high ratings by the guide’s readers are featured in the event, including Wooloomooloo Prime, Le Chef, Xia Fei Society, The Peak Lookout, Steik World Meats and AVA Restaurant Slash Bar. Cuisine choices comprise traditional Asian and authentic Western dishes. Discounts are on offer.

For instance, Harakan-S, Japanese Dining Room (pictured) is pricing its set lunch menu at HK$248, down from the original HK$328. Dishes include sashimi section, negi-toro roll, Sanuki udon and Angus beef or assorted tempura as main course. Participating restaurants are categorised as one to three “$” signs and they offer menus for the event at fixed prices of, respectively, HK$98, HK$158 and HK$248 for lunch, and HK$258, HK$328 and HK$458 for dinner. Here are two more restaurant highlights:

Jimmy's Kitchen (Tsim Sha Tsui) - $
Cuisine: European

Special lunch set:
Starter: House cured salmon gravlax salad; marinated anchovies and sweet peppers on focaccia toast; or pork rillettes with homemade piccalilli
Main Course: Penne pasta with garlic prawns, artichokes parsley and olive oil; slow roasted duck leg served on mash with frisee lettuce and shallot sauce; or grilled US pork chop with glazed apple sauce
Dessert: Jimmy’s bread and butter pudding; chocolate mousse with strawberry compote; or homemade lemon cheesecake
Coffee or tea Blue

Smoke Bar-B-Que - $$
Cuisine: American Deep South

Special dinner menu:
Appetizer: Pork belly nuggets slow roasted then deep fried to crispy golden brown, served with pickled watermelon and honey BBQ
Main Course: Texas Style Short Ribs, smoked, sliced and served on the bone & mac and cheese (a blend of creamy American style cheeses and elbow macaroni baked until golden brown) Dessert: Ice cream sundae
Tea or coffee

Cuisine: Scandinavian  

Special dinner set:
Cold starter: Baby tomatoes, air-dried ham, white and green asparagus, feta cheese, French beans and butter lettuce in aged sherry vinaigrette; or salmon in six ways - cold smoked, seared, mousse, pickled, gravad lax and golden roe (pictured) 
Hot starter: Slow-braised Wagyu beef cheek with baked tarragon carrots in Erdinger sauce; or Finnish summer vegetable soup
Main course: Roasted spring lamb tenderloin with roasted garlic puree, parsnip, celery, fava beans, tomatoes and shallot confits; house smoked salmon fillet with stewed morels and fingerling potatoes in dill sauce; or beetroot risotto with hazelnuts with white asparagus, baby spinach and feta cheese
Dessert: Taster - milk chocolate mousse flavoured with blackcurrant tea; “Daim” parfait banana toffee pie
Tea and coffee; and free flow of soft drinks and beers
