Heathrow Express launches smartphone booking

3 May 2012 by ScottCarey7

Business travellers can now buy tickets for Heathrow Express trains using their smartphones.

The company, which is part of Heathrow’s owner BAA, has added new functions to its existing Blackberry and Android apps (see online news December 2010) which lets users buy tickets that will be delivered directly to their phones as well as giving live service updates.

The upgraded app allows business passengers who work for companies with a corporate trade account to book train tickets without having to go through their travel department. The paperless transaction will then be recorded through this account.

Heathrow Express, which operates trains between the airport and Paddington station in central London, has unveiled a series of initiatives as part of a new £16 million investment (see online news March 8) including new trains and uniforms for staff to be introduced this summer.

Michael Walker, head of commercial development, said: “We have a series of continued innovations planned throughout the year to ensure we keep upgrading the online functionality for our business and leisure customers."
