Pullman Jakarta Indonesia set to get a major facelift

2 May 2012

Pullman Jakarta Indonesia, recently rebranded from Hotel Nikko Jakarta (see story here), is set to undergo major refurbishment that will give its lobby level, meeting facilities and Executive Tower whole new looks to match with Pullman’s image. The overall theme will be contemporary with a touch of Indonesian tradition.

The first phase of the renovation will involve level 1 (ground floor), and during this time, level 2 will become the temporary lobby level. When the new permanent lobby opens, the lobby lounge will have been moved against the full-length windows and there will be a connectivity lounge with iMacs for guests to use. The Oakroom, a cigar lounge and bar, will be moved from here to one level up, with a slightly edgier look and leather sofas, instead of the upholstered ones currently in use.

In the second phase, levels 2 and 3 will be completely rebuilt. The retail shops will be gone, and these floors will be dedicated to the executive lounge, 17 meeting rooms with removable partitions between them, and the brand’s signature Chill Out space. The meeting rooms can accommodate any group of 10 to 60 people and there will be a recreation area equipped with a kitchen that can be rented for tea breaks or even cooking exercises. There will also be a separate area for games. Some of the meeting rooms on level 3 have terraces that look out to the pool.

Party of the old executive lounge currently located on the top floor will become Soiree Suite, an event space with an open terrace and capacity for 60 guests. The rest of the space will form part of the new Ambassador Suite accommodation option.

While the new meeting facilities are being built, the ballroom, which was renovated in 2010, will remain open and it can be divided into meeting rooms. As an event venue, this space can accommodate up to 420 for a sit-down banquet and 1,000 to 3,000 guests as a cocktail-style party. The ballroom can be accessed through a separate entrance and guests do not need to pass through the hotel’s lobby.

While the first three levels are being worked on, rooms in the Executive Tower will also go through a revamp. The wall between the bedroom and the bathroom in each unit will be knocked down to open up the space, and signature features of Pullman such as the connectivity panel, yoga mat and dumbbells as well as espresso machine will be added. The overall feel of the room will also be modernised and the toiletries have already been changed to Roger & Gallet. Rooms in the other wing of the hotel, Pullman Tower, alongside the spa and the gym, were renovated in 2010 and are already of modern standards.

In terms of food and beverage offerings, a French bakery will be added to highlight the heritage of Accor, the hotel group that owns the Pullman brand. There will also be an all-day-dining concept consisting of four open kitchens serving contemporary Indonesian food, Chinese and Japanese cuisine and bistro-style Mediterranean and French dishes. The buffet will be served between these four kitchens but there are also a la carte areas. There will be booths, banquette seating and individual tables. Because of the hotel’s former identity as a Nikko, many guests who stay at the property are from Japan, so there will also be counter seating designed for enjoying bento boxes, with a TV on the wall playing news in Japanese. Three private rooms for six to eight people, enclosed within glass walls, will be available.

The hotel will continue to operate Kahyangan Shabu-Shabu Restaurant, on the 28th, 29th and 30th floors of the adjacent Wisma Nusantara building. This 39 years old institution has recently added a teppanyaki section and its top-floor private room is frequently booked by celebrities and dignitaries.

Completion of the renovation project is aimed at September next year in order to capture the festive season.
