Hilton Worldwide is to open a new 433-room hotel close to Amsterdam Schiphol airport, scheduled to be unveiled in 2015.
The new Hilton Amsterdam Schiphol Airport will be located close to the group’s existing property of the same name on the access roads to the airport terminal, with the old building set to be demolished once the new hotel opens.
The new property will be connected to the terminal via a sheltered walkway, and will feature a distinctive cube shape, with “rounded edges and a diamond-shaped façade with diagonal lines”, and an atrium with a 35-metre high glass ceiling.
Facilities will include a ballroom, 23 meeting rooms, a speciality restaurant and bar, an executive lounge, a spa and fitness centre, and underground parking.
The building will be designed by Dutch architectural firm Mecanoo, which is also currently working on the new Library of Birmingham, a development which will comprise Melia Hotels first Innside property in the UK (see online news January 19).
Aside from the existing airport hotel, Hilton Worldwide currently operates the Hilton Amsterdam and the recently opened Doubletree by Hilton Hotel Amsterdam Centraal Station. The group is also set to open its first Waldorf Astoria property in Amsterdam next year.
