Kingfisher to drop London routes?

13 Mar 2012 by BusinessTraveller

Troubled Indian carrier Kingfisher Airlines looks set to drop flights from Heathrow to Delhi and Mumbai from next month.

Business Traveller was alerted to the news by industry website airlineroute.net, which reports that GDS timetable and inventory displays are showing reservations closed on the London-Delhi route from April 10, and on the London-Mumbai service from April 16.

When Business Traveller checked the carrier’s website today (March 13), we were unable to book tickets on these routes past the dates quoted, with all reservation requests showing as “Selected flight is sold out. Please select another flight.”

Kingfisher has faced increasing pressure from tax authorities and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in recent weeks, the latter of which has suspended the carrier from several account settlement systems for failing to provide cash deposits.

This, coupled with what the airline is referring to as “employee agitation” caused by delayed salary payments, means Kingfisher is currently only operating around 80 per cent of scheduled services, as confirmed in a statement posted on its website earlier this week.
