Scoot says "Get Outta Here!"

2 Feb 2012

After going through some 3,000 submissions for its slogan competition, Singapore Airlines' low-cost offshoot, Scoot, has finally revealed its official slogan: Get Outta Here!

The American slang was chosen by the board of directors after reviewing the 10 shortlisted finalists. According to the airline, the slogan is the essence of “scootitude” – defined as "a daring attitude to be positive, uncompromising on safety and efficiency, yet not afraid to do things differently, see things from another perspective, AND not forgetting to be a little quirky, laugh (at ourselves sometimes) and have fun all at the same time".

Some of the other short-listed taglines include “Just Plane Awesome”, “Live. Love. Fly.”, “Still Here?”, “Your journey is our destination” and "Flying just got fun".

“We sought to look for a tagline that is in line with Scoot’s mission, core values, and reflective of Scoot’s fun, quirky and slightly irreverent personality,” said a spokesperson from the airline.

Response to the new slogan has been lukewarm. Some members on the airline’s Facebook page pointed out that the slogan has a negative connotation, while one commented that a good slogan “should leave no room for double interpretations”. Others also expressed that "Get Outta Here!" is not a good omen for an airline.

The carrier has posted a response to the negative feedback, stating that they welcome the feedback and those who dislike the slogan should “give it a chance". Currently, Scoot has not revealed any plans to include the slogan on its aircraft livery.

Earlier this month, the airline’s uniform also drew mixed reviews from the public and its Facebook fans (see story here). Many criticised the male cabin crew uniform for being too casual, and some suggested the t-shirt should be tucked in to portray a more professional image. Scoot has reviewed the design of its male cabin crew uniform and is currently working on some adjustments to it.
