Norwegian orders 100 B737 Max aircraft

25 Jan 2012 by BusinessTraveller

Norwegian has placed the largest ever order for Boeing aircraft by a European airline, with a total of 100 B737 Max aircraft and 22 next-generation B737-800s on order.

The carrier is also the first European airline to place a firm order for Boeing’s forthcoming 737 Max aircraft, the manufacture of which was officially given the go ahead by Boeing last August (see online news August 30, 2011).

Norwegian’s order is worth US$11.4 billion at list prices, and takes the orders and commitments for the B737 Max to over 1,000 aircraft from 15 customers.

The carrier currently operates 62 B737-300 and B737-800 aircraft, and aside from today’s announcement Norwegian also has six B787 Dreamliner aircraft on order for future long-haul operations.
