Doubletree to open first UK airport hotel

8 Jul 2011 by BusinessTraveller

Hilton’s Doubletree brand is set to open a 179-room hotel next to Newcastle airport later this year.

The new-build Doubletree by Hilton Newcastle International Airport will feature 11 conference rooms, a business centre, fitness centre and “extensive food and beverage options”.

Doubletree currently has eight properties across the UK, including two in London, but this is the first to be located by an airport.

Hilton Worldwide has several UK airport hotels including the Hampton by Hilton Liverpool John Lennon airport, and the forthcoming Hilton Heathrow T5 (see online news May 3).

The group also has an existing property in Newcastle Gateshead under its Hilton Hotels and Resorts brand.

This new hotel by Newcastle airport has been under construction for some time, but the site was recently acquired by the Cairn Hotel Group, and will be operated under a franchise agreement with Hilton Worldwide.

There are several existing hotels close to Newcastle airport, including two Premier Inn properties and the Britannia Hotel Newcastle Airport.
