Taiwan’s new Free Independent Travellers (FIT) programme will begin on June 28, 2011.
As reported earlier (see story here), the FIT will enable individual travellers from the Mainland to enter Taiwan, and not as part of a tour group, which is the current practise. Initially, the initiative will be launched on a trial basis for residents of Beijing, Shanghai and Xiamen before including other cities.
Additionally, Taiwan recently announced more air links with China and Hong Kong per week, all of which reflect growing demand for cross-straits travel (see story here). Negotiations may increase flights to 500 per week between Taiwan and the Mainland and up to 410 per week to and from Hong Kong.
