Easyjet to reintroduce Glasgow-Amsterdam route

20 Apr 2011 by BusinessTraveller

Low-cost carrier Easyjet will commence a daily Glasgow-Amsterdam service from October, competing with KLM’s five-times daily offering.

The carrier last flew between Glasgow and Amsterdam in 2005, but will reintroduce the route on October 31. Flights will go on sale at easyjet.com from tomorrow (April 21).

Easyjet will operate the route with Airbus A320 aircraft, compared with KLM and its subsidiary KLM Cityhopper services which use a mixture of Boeing 737, Embraer 190 and Fokker 70 aircraft. KLM is able to offer a five-times daily service as it uses the flights to feed into its network at Amsterdam Schiphol.

The news follows Easyjet’s recent announcement that it will launch a three-times weekly service between Glasgow and Jersey in June (see online news March 24). The carrier will also add a fourth daily flight between Glasgow and Gatwick this winter, and is currently trialling new incentives for business travellers from its Scottish bases (see online news April 11).
