BA has made several changes to its Bahrain and Tokyo schedules over the next few days. Flights to Bahrain are currently routing via Doha, while Tokyo services are operating via Hong Kong, with flights to Haneda switched to Narita airport.
Political unrest in Bahrain has led BA to alter its schedules until March 27 “to maintain a flexible and robust operation”. Outbound flight BA125 is making a “brief stop” in Doha, before continuing to Bahrain and then returning directly to London Heathrow.
Meanwhile the earthquake and subsequent fears over nuclear radiation have forced the carrier to rejig its Tokyo schedules. Until March 21 flights to Tokyo will operate via Hong Kong, and between March 22-27 the service will route via Seoul.
In addition BA’s recently inaugurated service to Tokyo’s Haneda airport will operate to Narita airport until March 27. Passengers should consult the status of the above flights before departing for the airport.
Many airlines and hotel chains are helping the disaster effort in Japan, with up to 20,000 people feared killed by the earthquake and tsunami. Korean Air is providing some 5,000 boxes of mineral water and 2,000 blankets, while members of Finnair and IHG's loyalty schemes can donate their miles and points to the Japanese Red Cross.
