Airbus has reassured China Southern Airlines the safety issue surrounding the Rolls Royce Trent 900 engines will not affect delivery of the carrier's first Airbus A380.
The Guangzhou-based China Southern has five on order, and its latest acquisition is due to join its fleet in mid-2011. At the Airshow China in Zhuhai this week, Laurence Barron, Airbus China president, said that they did not expect any delays “at this stage”.
Airbus and Rolls Royce are thinking of replacing up to 80 of Trent 900 engines in the wake of the uncontained failure aboard a Qantas A380 in early November. Twenty of the 38 A380s in service are powered by the engine manufacturer.
