Sofitel to debut in Guangzhou's Tianhe CBD

16 Aug 2010

Sofitel Hotel will debut in Guangzhou by year-end, joining the spurt of hotel openings (for more on new players, click here) poised to take place over the next 18 months. It is the second property in the city for the Accor Group, after the Pullman Guangzhou Baiyun Airport Hotel.

The Asian Games, scheduled from November 12 to 27, has been a catalyst for development.

Within the rising commercial district of Tianhe, the 493-room hotel is accessible to the East Railway Station, which links the city to leading Pearl River Delta hubs such as Hongkong, Shenzhen and Dongguan.

It has 17 meeting rooms and a Grand Ballrooom that can seat up to 800 people. There is also a business centre, which offers secretarial and translation services, computer stations and free internet access. Recreational facilities include a 24-hour fitness centre, an indoor swimming pool and Accor's branded SoSpa.

In June, Sofitel announced expansion moves in the Middle East and China (see news), with Sofitel Hotel Guangzhou as one of three Sofitels to be added to a portfolio of 22 existing Sofitels in the country.

Hilton and Marriott are also slated to open in Tianhe this year.
