Eurostar and Regus experience “huge rise in demand” following Icelandic eruption

16 Apr 2010 by BusinessTraveller
Demand for Eurostar services soared yesterday as UK flight were grounded, while video-conferencing specialist Regus says bookings were up 38 per cent as business travellers looked for meeting alternatives. Our sister website ABTN reported that Eurostar bookings were up by 10,000 from an average of 26,000 bookings per day. A statement on the rail operator’s website says: “We are doing everything we can by adding extra trains to help passengers who are experiencing problems as a result of the disruption to air travel in Europe but inevitably our trains are extremely busy over the weekend. “We would ask that you only come to our stations if you hold a confirmed reservation for travel.” Meanwhile Regus said that it is expecting today (Friday April 16) to be the busiest day in the history of the company for customers booking video communication facilities, as business travellers opt for alternative means to proceed with planned international meetings. NATS says that the airspace over England and Wales will remain closed until at least 0700 tomorrow (Saturday). For more information visit eurostar.com, regus.co.uk. Report by Mark Caswell
