IHG is to equip concierges at selected Intercontinental properties with the new Apple iPad, enabling them to offer “enhanced local destination advice”.
The new technology will be trialled at four properties from next week – the InterContinental New York Barclay, InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta, InterContinental London Park Lane and InterContinental Hong Kong.
IHG says that the iPads will “enhance its Concierge team's interaction with guests in various ways”, including providing exact directions through interactive maps and close-up street views, showing guests videos of recommended local activities, and enabling instant booking and confirmation of restaurants, performances and attractions.
The iPad went on sale in the US on Saturday, with prices starting at around £325. Apple has not yet released details of the launch date or pricing in the UK, although there are rumours that the product will be on sale here before the end of the month.
