Ryanair passengers wishing to check in bags during July and August will have to pay £20 per bag for the privilege, an increase of £5 on the normal rate.
The low-cost carrier says it making the move in order to “incentivise all of its passengers to travel light during the peak summer months”.
The fee will only be applicable to new bookings made after midnight tomorrow (Wednesday April 7), for customers checking in bags during July and August. Passengers checking in bags either side of these dates will pay the normal charge of £15, and the free 10kg hand luggage limit will still apply throughout the peak period.
Ryanair says that over 70 per cent of its passengers “will be unaffected by these changes because they travel with no checked-in bags”.
