Resorts World Sentosa enlists Tiger Airways for charter flights

22 Feb 2010

Newly opened Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) has signed an agreement with Tiger Airways for charter flights to bring in overseas visitors to Singapore's latest attraction.

"We promised to bring tourism to the country and reinvent its tourism landscape," said Liang Wern Ling, RWS director of destination sales. "We are creating our own airline with this first aircraft, which shows our commitment to bringing the economics benefits to Singapore."

In a memorandum of understanding signed early this month, RWS will lease an aircraft of Tiger Airways, which will provide the pilots and the crew.

The private plane service will operate on Tiger Airways' existing region-wide network, as well as short-haul routes within Asia and Australasia.

The carrier's spokesman said an Airbus A320 aircraft will be deployed solely for this charter offering, although the specific A320 type to be used is yet to be decided. Tiger Airways' A320 fleet comes in two capacity configurations, carrying a total of 144 and 180 passengers respectively.

Tiger Airways managing director Rosalynn Tay said: "This is a real alliance with real benefits to both partners. While we get a new revenue stream and reduced costs, RWS gets a cost-effective solution to bringing more customers to Singapore's most exciting destination.

While flight schedules have yet to be finalised, what is sure is that the RWS charter service will start up later this year.
