BA woos Bmi Diamond Club members on cut routes

11 Jan 2010 by Mark Caswell

BA Executive Club is offering a status match for Diamond Club members based in Israel, Belgium, the Ukraine and the Netherlands, following Bmi’s decision to cut routes to these countries from London.

In November Lufthansa-owned Bmi announced it would be cutting several routes from London Heathrow (see online news November 25, 2009), with flights to Brussels, Tel Aviv and Kiev already dropped, and Amsterdam to follow suite on March 27.

BA serves all four routes from London, and has responded by offering travellers based in these destinations the opportunity to match their current Diamond Club Silver or Gold membership for equal status within the BA Executive Club scheme.

Members have until February 14 to apply for the status match (April 30 in the case of the Netherlands). Interested travellers should note that the future of Bmi’s Diamond Club loyalty scheme is uncertain since the carrier’s take over by Lufthansa, with CEO Wolfgang Prock-Schauer saying late last year that integration of the programme into Lufthansa’s Miles and More loyalty programme was “one possibility”.
