Bangkok launches visitor discount card

Bangkok is giving visitors more reason to light up with its Bangkok Smiles Card.

Set for a September launch – at press time the date had yet to be announced – the programme backed by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration – has attracted some 1,000 participating merchants around the city to offer discounts from 5 percent upwards. They represent establishments associated with accommodation, shopping, dining, entertainment, nightlife, spa, golf and massage and even medical treatments.

Travellers can pick up the card at Tourist Information Booths located throughout the Thai gateway. It is valid until August 2011. It is not a credit card and privileges can be withdrawn without prior notice.
