Taiwan extends short visitor stays

2 Mar 2009

Keen to build up its tourism numbers, Taiwan has extended the stays of several foreign nationalities. The list includes visitors from Hongkong, India, Macau, the Philippines and Thailand.

For temporary visits, they are now allowed to stay up to 30 days on each entry. Previously, they could stay only up to 14 days. The new regulation, issued by the country’s National Immigration Agency, is now in effect.

Taiwan's travel industry has received fresh impetus in recent months due to the launch of charter flights from Mainland China. Decades of hostility between Taiwan and China are now melting away due to a new mindset of government officials from both sides.
