SIA guarantees Preferred Seats in Economy

3 Nov 2008

Preferred seat guarantee in Singapore Airline’s (SIA) Economy Class has just opened up with the introduction of Preferred Seat Selection.

Previously, only seats located in exit rows were available for allocation.

Customers will be offered an option to purchase a specific Preferred Seat when they make their seat selection for applicable Economy Class bookings, including KrisFlyer redemption bookings via www.singaporeair.com. The fee for one is US$50 per sector for all SIA flights, except short-haul routes within Southeast Asia, and flights served by a Boeing B777-200ER aircraft (as this type does not have seats located in exit rows).

Or they can also buy a Preferred Seat anytime before check in (from 48 hours before flight departure) by retrieving their bookings on Singaporeair.com.

The advantage of Preferred Seats is they offer more legroom.

Until the innovation, Preferred Seats were only available upon request, without confirmation. The new option provides a guarantee of assignment, subject to terms and conditions, and on a first come, first serve basis.

Prerequisites are set by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore and include being 21 years of age at the commencement of journey and being in good health at the time of check in, boarding and during the flight among others.
