Accor opens second Mercure hotel in UK

7 Dec 2006 by business traveller

Hotel brand Accor continues its expansion in the UK, with the opening of a four-star Mercure hotel in Bristol. The boutique-style Mercure Brigstow Bristol is situated on the River Avon, and is around five minutes walk from Bristol's Temple Mead mainline station.

The hotel comprises 116 rooms, all of which have air-conditioning, wired internet access (wifi is available in the reception and the mezzanine meeting areas), flatscreen TVs and separate bath and shower. Rooms overlooking the river also have a small private balcony. Other facilities include Eclipse restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, with an emphasis on regional dishes using local produce, and four meeting rooms holding between 12 and 60 delegates. Guests also have complimentary use of the nearby Welshback fitness centre (Welshback being the cobbled area running along the bank of the River Avon and adjacent to Bristol's old town).

The Mercure Brigstow represents only the second hotel of this brand to open in the UK (the other being the Mercure London City Bankside near London's Southbank), although there are some 750 properties worldwide. The brand markets itself as a mid-market boutique offering, with each hotel having its own individual feel, and sits alongside Accor's better known Novotel brand (see online news August 23 for the new opening in Reading earlier this year). The French hotel group also offers upmarket hotels with the Sofitel brand, and budget brands in the form of Ibis and Etap.

Rates at the Mercure Brigstow Bristol start from £90, room only.
