CallMeIshmaelParticipantBest travel apps –
JIWIRE – has the world’s largest registry of verified wi-fi hotspots saving you the excruciating cost of taking your smartphone abroad. (free)
TRIPIT – is a travel manager. Send it your confirmation e-mails and it creates maps, stores numbers and checks for any travel delays (free)
FLIGHT TIMES – enables you to check live airport departure boards or track individual flights £0.59
JIBBIGO is a speech translator for seven languages. You talk in one tongue it talks back in another. £14.99
THE NORTH FACE SNOW REPORT gives recent snowfalls in your resort, plus avalanche warnings and weather forecasts (free)
WORD LENS – Hold it up to a Spanish menu and it provides an instant translation £2.99
Available from iphones apps store
http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app
Gleaned from “The Week Magazine” which I believe provides the best précis of UK, Europe and World news along with a cornucopia of other titbits from the last week. It is compiled from newspapers and journals across the globe so is great for catching up and keeping abreast of events whilst travelling.

parneraParticipantHi There,
I travel around the World at least once month from Wellington, New Zealand and am constantly prone to delayed or cancelled flights and my business contacts and family are constantly trying to understand when I am landing so that they can reach me.
I have therefore created an iPhone and iPad application that gives live departures and arrivals information for any flights at any given airport around the World. You can find an overview of the application at http://www.3dot5.net/blog/world-flights/.
I have also created a USA specific application for live flight tracking for any flights in the US, from the US or US bound. Every single US airport is represented 😉
http://www.3dot5.net/blog/airports-live/There is also a draw to win an ipad everytime a milestone of 10,000 download of the iPhone version is reached on the AppStore, more information can be found on: http://www.3dot5.net/blog/win-an-ipad-with-world-flights/
And a draw to win an iPhone 4 everytime a milestone of 10,000 download of the iPad version is reached on the AppStore, more information can be found on: http://www.3dot5.net/blog/win-an-iphone-4/
Cheers,
Patrice

TheTouristParticipantI’d second My Flights – I’ve got an iPad so use the My Flights HD version which is so useful – it tells me about changes to my booking long before the airlines bother to.
I wish it covered more than Amadeus bookings, but until then, there still isn’t another App out there that checks your bookings in this way.

degreecyParticipantI extensively use FlightTrackPro on iPhone and iPad, you can search for all flights, and it will send you info when the flight changes. It also keeps a record of all your flights useful for when calling the BA Gold line…!
RealTube is excellent, it shows tube stations on a map, but not per the underground map, actually shows where the lines go and the stations so you really know which station is closest.
OpenTable and TopTable good for booking restaurants on the go.

LasseCehofski_MDParticipantI like the Continental app which is available for android. Orbitz also have a really good app that sometimes allow you to find cheaper fares than on the websites of the airlines.

VintageKrugParticipantThe Priority Club app has a number of failings, principally that the room rate/roomtype is not displayed – which is essential info when checking in.
Is there a Marriott app yet?

MyFlightsAppParticipantMy list includes:
My Flights (how could it not? 🙂 – the only app to actively track Amadeus bookings)
Status Wallet (keeps track of all of my FF accounts)
The BA app (speaks for itself)
Currency (so I can always check how much I’m being ripped off)
Sky + (so I can set my Sky+HD box up to record programmes I’ve forgotten about while on the road)

CallMeIshmaelParticipantYou big kid, though I like how the plane icon changes according to the size of the aircraft. 😉 also far better aircraft details, pictures and flight info.
Planefinder (pc Planefinder.net) doesn’t have this function but it does have runway movements. Thanks for the link.20 Mar 2011

CallMeIshmaelParticipantA few more recommended by the gadget show.
– Postman £1.79 – Makes a picture you take into a virtual postcard to upload/send to a variety of media, social networking.
– Tripcase – Similar to myflight or tripit
– inap – gives an alarm when you reach a destination
– Hear Planet – gives you the low down of interesting stuff in your current location, verbally and textually.4 Apr 2011
