OwenFryParticipantI myself researched the web for travel friendly iPhone apps and found Geomium. One can use Geomium to find new friends, discover restaurants & bars, money off deals and events happening near you. It’s so much feature packed such that I love it very much! Geomium will be of immense help while I am travelling.
Take a look at Geomium’s home page http://geomium.com to learn more or download the iPhone app from http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/geomium-find-friends-bars/id387714154?mt=8.
In addition to Geomium, I would recommend Skype, Gtalk and Facebook.

BunnahabhainParticipantI find the National Rail Enquiries app useful, despite the controversial £4.99 charge for access to the real time database compared with the same information free using a browser to access the website. Real time and dependable information on delays can save you a lot of time, especially if travelling on unrestricted tickets where you can choose to go for an earlier or later train and make the most of your time rather than standing at the station waiting. Less of an advantage when departing from the origin of the service as these tend to be on time, delays occur en route.
The same information is less useful for flights unless connecting, as you still have to turn up at the airport / gate by the original close out time no matter how delayed the departure. Ok if meeting someone arriving, saves hanging around. iFlight UK covers the BAA airports + LGW, LTN and MAN – plenty of others like it. LHR and MAN have their own official apps, no doubt others too.
London Travel Deluxe – TfL timetables & route planning covering all forms of transport
AllSubway – An offline pile of tube maps for major cities around the world.
Transit Maps – facility to load up maps which cover more than just the tube system (like London connections which includes the National Rail lines) before leaving, then sync and view offline on phone.
iPictureIt – get by in pidgin sign language in the above tube stations!!
Global SOS – Emergency numbers
iRail – European rail timetables (not real time running information). The Trainline offers similar for UK.

AndrealuxeParticipantHello! I am writing from the LUXE City Guides, we now do mobile app versions of our guides, both for iPhone and HTC, Blackberry and other handsets. We have 20 out of the 31 cities we feature, with the rest coming soon, priced at $5.99.
It’s useful for business travellers who don’t want to read through endless copy, but just need to know the top spots for eating, drinking, sleeping and playing.
See luxecityguides.com for more information
Hope this helps.

Matinée-AllstarsParticipantI have tried a number of apps and never been totally impressed
The best thing I have found is Kayak
If you create a login on Kayak (www.kayak.co.uk) then simply forward any travel emails … hotel/train/flight/car booking confirmations from your registered email address to Kayak (<a href="mailto:[email protected]“>[email protected])
Kayak auto-assembles all the emails into “itineraries” with everything for one trip assembled together in chronological order
This works even better if you setup the Itinerary in Kayak in advance ( a 10 second job)
You can print all your bookings for 1 trip from Kayak easily and drill down to the original booking email
You can also output a feed from Kayak of all your trips info which can auto-update your calendar
So… simply forward the emails to Kayak
It assembles your trips (in section MY TRIPS)
It then auto-populates your calendar on you mac and iPhone
I am totally amazed at how simple it is and how well it works
Hope it works for you….
