AllOverTheGaffParticipantCan’t make my mind up and wondered what the collective wisdom on here would be.
Flight 1: United EDI – EWR – MCO Good connection times
Flight 2: Lufthansa ABZ – FRA – IAD – MCO (Leaves at 05:55 with a long connect in FRA)
Return 1: United MCO – EWR – EDI and lands at 07:30
Return 2: Lufthansa MCO – IAD – FRA – ABZ and lands into ABZ at 11:15So, is it worth the extra hassle of the connection, and the long wait at FRA on the way out to fly LH’s business class on the new 747-8 which looks really nice, or do I take the simple route, and one I know won’t blow my socks off but is sufficient?
Both are the same price, oh, the internal US legs with Lufthansa are economy….so Washington – Orlando return in economy, there isn’t a facility to upgrade on Lufthansa.com

TimFitzgeraldTCParticipantWhat dates are you looking at. Could you not go FRA-ABZ-MCO? (Looking in August at random for you). Also if available the internals should also be First Class for the same fare if you do go via IAD.

SenatorParticipantI suspect the EDI-EWR is on the B757-200ER using a former Continental BusinessFirst product? I think this is a stellar product, and IMHO (despite my alias) United C is better than Lufthansa C. I will be on the B747-8i in F later in July, I can report back then.

SwissdiverParticipantWell, AOTG, would it surprises you if I was suggesting you should go for the B747-8?
Tim, according to LH website, “The new Jumbo is already in service on the routes from Frankfurt to Bangalore, Delhi, Washington, Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Miami.” But not on all the flights.25 Jun 2013

AllOverTheGaffParticipant@Swissdriver – what put me off was the 05:55 from ABZ to FRA then a 4.5 hour wait on the 747-800, I called Lufthansa today to ask if I could fly the night before on their 17:45 service from ABZ but it put the price up by thousands.
However, a chat with Timfitzgerald and we’re good to fly to FRA on the evening flight from ABZ, have a bit of dinner and some schnaaps at FRA hotel then out on the early PM to IAD / MCO.
All looking good….thanks Tim!
Rgds.
