Thanks for posting the detailed info, Carajillo2Sugar.
Sorry to divert this thread but I noticed that passengers taking a KLM flight ex-Cairo this morning were only allowed to take hand luggage.
Only 155 passengers out of the 247 booked actually boarded the flight as they didn’t want to travel without their checked luggage.
KLM is a 6th freedom carrier, I imagine these would be passengers who would be travelling long-haul beyond Amsterdam.
As far as is known, no other European carrier has so far enforced this rule for flights departing Cairo.
Worse, as generally a HB only traveller, the reduced size allowed would necessitate new bags! An extended stay or return from Cairo would seem preferable.
I agree Peter. Try and let the hassle pass over.
According to the news just now the Egyptian Aviation Minister has said a maximum of 8 flights to UK allowed today, with 2 already left. However Thomson, BA and Monarch with 15 planned between them say they are unaware of this.
8 further Easyjet flights planned today have all been cancelled.
Sounds like a recipe for confusion, stress and general aggravation.
Latest news is that Russia will suspend all flights to Egypt.
One wonders now if any other countries will follow ?
This BBC News piece was published just before the above announcement.
Only eight of the 29 rescue flights planned for today will operate. Must be distressful for those passengers stranded at Sharm.
