Papillion53ParticipantHi Kimcottrell – yes I would love to do that – BIg.Dog suggested carrying on and coming back from Phoenix, so that’s another possibility.
So many choices so little time!

TimFitzgeraldTCParticipantHi Papillion
I assume you are flying over a Saturday night. If not you may find it cheaper to book flights and a hotel combined as a package rather than as separate components (if you haven’t used Avios or anything like that). The FHR benefits from my time working there are very good indeed at the Bellagio and people often get upgraded.

VintageKrugParticipantSedona is lovely, but I only flew through previously.
Where would you recommend to stay? Many of the hotels looked rather “artistic”.

AllOverTheGaffParticipantHi Papillion
Like most here, have done Vegas and well…..yeah! Bit of a Marmite place!
Two highlights, one of which is a must do and randomly, your namesake! Papillion helicopters will take you INTO the Canyon and land, have a wee lunch and then fly back out. It was by a country-mile the best thing I did in Vegas, and me being the half-witted-know-it-all that I am, I stayed for a full week even though I was told, more than once, by several people, to only stay 3-days.
Second thing I did which was fun (and funny) was to hire a 1959 Cadillac (the one with the huge fins at the back) and drove to Hoover Dam. Less than 10 miles out of Vegas it promptly broke down (we were later told the fuel gauge didn’t work and it had simply ran out of fuel) so we then had a replacement 1969 Pontiac GTO resplendent in luminous yellow with black stripe. Oh my, what a roar it made when you pressed on the accelerator, it didn’t actually go any faster, but the noise and vibration were a real hoot. I think the place was called “dream car rentals” and is towards what used to be the bottom of the Strip.
Hotel wise, we did the Venetian which is…..well…..erm…..a theme hotel with a theme that they’ve themed. Would I go back? Erm….can I take the 5th?
But, my advice is to not miss the helicopter over the Canyon, actually quite sublime.

VintageKrugParticipantNice tip about L’auberge:

Looks great, particularly the waterside massage! I’ll give it some proper attention when I come back from hols. The Grand Villas look OK, but I’m rather put off by the 1990s website:

I had heard the FS was the way to go, as its location at Troon North wad handy for Sedona:

If you had to choose one, which would it be?

CwyfanParticipantIf you are thinking main chains, and down in Scottsdale/Phoenix area, then I have no doubt my choice would be:
Of the original two in Sedona, L’Auberge edges it.
