I’d avoid the Trump; it feels “empty” and unloved, although it is a bargain.

The MGM Suites are OK, but the hotel is so vast it feels very impersonal and it’s not a property I have gone back to because of this.

I found the signature suites @ the rear of the MGM grand to be a great compromise. These are individually own apartments that MGM have rights to use for most nights of the year.

Consists of 3 towers totally separate from the main MGM hotel with their own gated arrival entrance and own check-in areas. No casino in any of the towers, moving covered walkways take you to the rear of the MGM itself in 10-15 minutes depending on which tower you are in where you have all the eating options, shops etc. Walk straight thru the MGM and you are on the strip. After a day of the lights and sounds of vegas, I found it a great way of leaving “vegas” behind for the night and having a normal nights rest.

I rented one of these direct from the owner, and saved about 30% on the MGM website price. Can’t recall the owners website I used. Was only up and running a year or two at the time, so the 1 bed apartment looked very fresh, and had upscale features. Rear over-looks airport, some rooms have a partial strip view.

Stayed in both the palazzo and venetian in a 2011 holiday, good upmarket properties, big rooms. Especially good experience if you are an IHG Royal Ambassador, as you get access to the VIP lounges and upgrades etc.

Make certain you use quidco if you’re booking through expedia, though I’d powerfully suggest the Amex route or even booking direct . Try and add a journey to the Grand Canyon.

I stayed at the Encore which is annexed to the Wynn resort. At the time it was the latest addition to the LV strip. The rooms and its amenities were fantastic.

I suggest you choose the newest hotel as you are almost guaranteed to have a nice luxurious rooms. Hotels don’t tend to invest a lot in the rooms; so a lot of them of their rooms and facilities look quite used and tired. I have also stayed previously stayed at the MGM and the Imperial Palace as well.

If you are willing to go for a new hotel, try and time your stay with the opening of a new hotel.

Their offers are normally great to attract customers to an untried, and therefore usually unreviewed facility, particularly if you negotiate over the phone.

It applies everywhere not just LV.

Stayed at Bellagio last March for the fist time. Very disappointing check in and out. Employees are not that efficient.
No identified registration waiting line. It is for the street guy’s experience to sneak in and jump from one arbitrary line to another.
It is the same story in many LVs top hotels.
The sad thing is that nine of these top hotels would not care to get an input neither would they take any complaint seriously. I guess business is so good that nothing matters.

I visited Las Vegas for the NAB convention every year from 2000 – 2012. I like small hotels/motels with a nice large room with a fridge. I used to stay at The Algiers motel until they closed it and then I had the same spacious room every year at the Somerset House Motel until it closed too. In 2012 I stayed at the Clarion, Convention Centre Drive. The room was great (and it was cheap), there were no resort charges and free WiFi but apart from teh room the rest of the hotel was shabby. I gave me what I wanted a nice room and easy parking near the Convention Centre. If you want flash and dash it will not be for you – but if you don’t want to walk miles from a car park or reception to get to your room it might just be right for you.

The Mandarin Oriental is wonderful, a proper oasis from the hustle, bustle and noise of the strip. We were there in early May for a few nights and the service, food, rooms etc were all faultless. The pool is (relatively) small, but that means quiet and at no time did we struggle to find a free pair of beds. There is no casino, but the Aria, Bellagio and NYNY floors are all within 10 mins walk. I wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Vegas.
