sandiego1ParticipantYesterday it was reported that that their first ‘first ‘ A380 which they announced as being purchased last May isn’t theirs ‘as yet’ they only paid a holding deposit presumably to stop anyone else from buying it. The whole concept is crazy, there is a reason BA do not fly to JFK with A380s and it is best not to delve too closely into Holiday Swap which is seemingly the owner of this whole enterprise. They are excellent at PR, the rest seems to leave a lot to be desired

BackOfThePlaneParticipantA borderline comical feature on the airline in the Sun from 2 days ago….
https://www.thesun.co.uk/travel/25753293/new-airline-purchased-plane/
Assuming that he (James Asquith) has been correctly quoted by the paper, he states that…
“Having a strong product in first class should filter down to economy, and make people in economy feel like a million dollars.”
Is he suggesting that people travelling economy will feel better about the experience because first class passengers are having a grand time? Let them eat cake?

AMcWhirterParticipantWell it finally arrived at Prestwick today.
First A380 for Global (still carrying China Southern livery) departed Mojave (California) where it had been stored, stopped in Montreal then continued to Glasgow Prestwick.
A few videos have already been posted on YouTube.

SimonS1ParticipantIt had to fly all that distance with the gear down, as the gear needs cycling at a test facility before it can be used.
The Montreal stop was for fuel.

AMcWhirterParticipantAlso I ought to have explained that this A380 flight was operated by HiFly of Malta which used to step in amd lease its ex-SIA A380 to other carriers.
Good example is where Norwegian (long-haul) needed extra LGW-JFK capacity some years ago while some its B787s were grounded.
