The two rather American style hotels that you mention would be low on my top ten eclipsed by both Shangri-la in Makati and the ‘Fort’
The grandame is still by far the Peninsula (very affordable) and I am looking forward to the new Mandarin later in the year

I agree if I am staying in Makati, Fairmont is my always my main option. BGC – Shangri-La is good, but more recently been staying as Ascott Apartments, which is very close to Shangri-la but much better value.

I recently stayed at the Fairmont Makati and was impressed by the spacious rooms and excellent buffets at breakfast and lunch.
