KeaneJohnParticipantI founf this little gem on You Tube last night.
This was 4 years before my first flight but I do fondly remember those departure/arrival monitors at BAA airports.
Its interesting to see how everything has evolved, from check in, baggage handling, in flight catering over the years.
Hope this maybe brings a bit of nostalgia for people and would welcome any comments.

lloydahParticipantI remember using Eastleigh Airport – for Southampton – in the late 60s and 70s. From memory it was a cross between Barra and Glasgow, everything by hand, walking across the tarmac, Dart Heralds waiting, and Stansted with wicker chairs in nissen huts (I was about 10 then!). Sounds more like a chapter out of Biggles than an airport.
That You Tube film brought it all back even though it wasn’t quite the same.17 Dec 2012

canuckladParticipantWhat a difference 30 years makes…. During summer holidays…I recall as a child having to use GLA to fly to AMS on my way to and from YVR.
Either BCal or KLM and then a feeling of home as soon as we boarded the big orange at Schipol !! Nostalgia indeed
Oh and the BCAL service stopped In NCL..
.
We then started using Air Anqlia/ Air UK flights direct to EDI….All these years later who would have thought that EDI would become Scotlands premier airport !!!
Would only use Weedgie International as a last option these days !!

KeaneJohnParticipantIm from Southampton so spent many a Sunday afternoon going up the stairs in between the check in desks to watch the planes in the old terminal.
There were so many things about the Glasgow clip that I enjoyed, the telephones, the big computers, the hairstyles..

transtraxmanParticipantIt just goes to show how much things change in the airline industry.
A long list of names in the British industry most now lost.
British (now BA)
BCal (now BA
Dan Air (now BA)
British Midland (now BA)
Loganair (still going strong)
Britannia (now Tui)
Orion (merged into Britannia – now Tui)and four foreign airlines:
The film opens and closes with Aviaco (now part of Iberia)
Icelandair (going strong)
Trans European Airlines -TEA (Belgium) (now in liquidation)
and most intriguingly Interflug (East Germany) (now in liquidation)19 Dec 2012

lloydahParticipantCanuklad, you can add these to your list,
TWA comes to mind, so does Pan Am. Then Varig and Braathens although I don’t know which were taken over and which went bankrupt.
Air Uk was one of my personal favourites, Vivaldi paying during boarding, silverware and china for the meal service. Smiles all round as far as I remember.19 Dec 2012

I enjoyed every minute of it. Check out those suitcases! It looked like a warm day in Glasgow, back when we had proper summers. I loved the opening with Aviaco.
