Twenty-one things to take on a trip

30 Sep 2013 by GrahamSmith

Business Traveller rounds up the essential items you shouldn’t leave home without

Most frequent travellers have developed packing into a fine art.

Whether you rely on checklists, keep your bag half-packed in the spare room ready for the next – always imminent – trip, or simply throw your things together knowing you can pick up anything you need at your destination, it’s likely you don’t spend a lot of time thinking about what you’re going to bring.

The following list might serve as a wake-up call.

Smart traveller list

We’ve omitted clothes because everyone is different, some travelling in smart suits and ties, others able to work in jeans and a T-shirt. (To see our advice on staying smart when travelling, see “Dressed for success”).

Instead, this is a list of useful stuff you either sometimes forget to pack, or perhaps have never thought of.

We aren’t suggesting this would be sufficient for a fortnight of touring the oil and gas fields of Western Africa – nevertheless, as a back-up checklist of core items, it will mean you can travel with confidence.

What do you never travel without? Let us know on the forum.
