Learning from Leaders in Asia

30 Apr 2010

Learning from Leaders in Asia After his successful Leadership Experience in Asia, Professor Steven DeKrey has set out to extend the topic and create another useful book for leaders and aspiring leaders to better understand Asia and what makes its workforce tick and to learn how to take leadership to a new level, where one can make a real impact.

Senior associate dean, director and founding member of the Kellogg-HKUST MBA and EMBA programmes at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), DeKrey bases the book on the work of senior executives from 14 different nations and, with an average work experience of 14 years, groups of his EMBA students. Input has also been collected from the course’s alumni. A wealth of research material is included, ensuring the articles are solid and well researched.

The agenda, set by these senior executives, addresses all the major issues a leader in Asia needs to know about to be a success, including one major headache in the fast developing region: attracting and retaining talent. Stability, innovation, corporate governance, globalisation and China’s “Go West” policy, which aims at developing 11 western provinces and bring them up to the level of the eastern and southern parts of the country, are also included.

The EMBA programme has been consistently rated by the Financial Times as the third best worldwide since 2005 and every year is able to attract the most prominent speakers. These illustrious business and political leaders bring their personal experiences to the course, addressing the above topics and questions they see as pertinent, adding a personal touch to the book.

The chance of learning from Asia’s very best makes this book a must-read for both those who would like to have a more structured insight into how business in Asia works and also those who are just starting out on this road and need the basics.
