IHG has announced three new European signings for its extended stay Staybridge Suites brand.

Forthcoming properties in Antwerp, Belfast and Budapest will add more than 380 rooms to the brand’s portfolio.

Liverpool was the first UK location for the Staybridge Suites concept back in 2008, and eight of the brand’s ten European properties are located in UK cities including Birmingham, Brighton, Cardiff, Dundee, London and Newcastle.

Belfast will now join the list, with a 132-room hotel housed within the mixed use Bedford Yard development (pictured above) opposite the the headquarters of BBC Northern Ireland, and scheduled to open towards the end of 2027.

The 99-room Staybridge Suites Antwerp is also set to open at the end of 2026, followed by the 152-room Staybridge Suites Budapest – Parkside in 20207, located in the city’s 13th district.

The new signings follow the opening of Staybridge Suites Cannes Centre in November – the brand is also set to debut in Spain later this year with the opening of Staybridge Suites Malaga within the Urban Sky development.

There are currently 324 Staybridge properties globally, with another 171 in the pipeline and scheduled to open in the next three to five years.

Earlier this year IHG unveiled new slimmer room prototypes for its Staybridge, Candlewood and Atwell Suites brands.

In the case of Staybridge Suites the new Smart Studio room configuration offers developers the option of a room bay measuring 13 feet instead of the current 16 feet, with streamlined kitchen equipment and fixtures and optimized millwork cabinetry.

The new designs will initially however only be available for US developments.

Commenting on the news Willemijn Geels, vice president, development, Europe, IHG Hotels & Resorts, said:

“The three latest signings follow the opening of Staybridge Suites Cannes Centre, France, in December 2023. This shows the great appetite for our all-suites offering across Europe as we meet a growing need for trips that blend business and leisure, or for guests staying multiple nights seeking both productivity and relaxation.

“Globally, the brand’s pipeline equals more than half its current open footprint, showing long-term confidence from our owners who are increasingly investing in this brand in new and dynamic markets.”
