LNER has updated its onboard first class catering with new dishes, adding pancakes, crumpets and pies to the menus.

The rail provider offers four menus to passengers – Dine, Dish, Deli and Brunch – with the service varying depending on the time of the day and route. Customers can find out which menu will be offered on their service at the time of booking.

For early risers, American-style pancakes have been introduced on the Dine, Dish and Brunch services, while hot buttery crumpets and gluten-free peach melba overnight oats are offered across all four menus. (Fret not, the Full LNER or Full Veggie LNER cooked breakfast is still included on the Dine service).

The Dine, Dish and Brunch menus will also now feature a Homity Pie from Malton, filled with potato, leek and onion in a creamy sauce and topped with cheddar cheese. This will be served with a green pea and bean salad with lemon vinaigrette dressing.

Customers served the Dine menu will also be able to order oven roasted cod with boulangère potatoes and green beans, followed by a cheese plate or a lemon and elderflower dessert from Beckleberry’s.

Additionally, LNER will be introducing new sandwiches and drinks on its Café Bar menu from 15 May, which are also able to order by scanning the QR code at your seat. These will include vegan and gluten-free options.

LNER sources produce from local suppliers along the East Coast route and highlights this within its menus.

Richard Judge, head of customer experience at LNER, said:

“We are always excited when we get to launch a new menu and we believe this is one of our best and most extensive yet. We are proud to work with local producers and suppliers across our route to create a truly wide range of delicious food and drink options onboard our trains, ensuring our customers get the very best experience and service when travelling with us.”

Last year the rail operator launched a pop-up restaurant in York to celebrate its 100th anniversary, with a menu featuring dishes served to train passengers over the past century.
