Aparthotel brand Locke is planning to open its largest project to date this summer, with a 370-room property in Lisbon, Portugal.

Locke de Santa Joana will be located in the city centre on the site of a former 17th century convent building, and feature design by Lázaro Rosa-Violán and Post Company. The property will include remnants of the convent along with a contemporary, purpose-built building.

An on-site museum featuring historical artefacts discovered during the restoration will pay homage to the building’s previous lives.

The property will house 370 rooms over nine floors, with a mixture of apartments, hotel rooms, penthouses and suites – all with fully equipped kitchens. Designed by Post Company, these will feature warm colour palettes, local fabrics, ceramics and stone finishes.

Additionally, there will be a co-working space, meeting and event spaces, as well as ten F&B outlets in collaboration with White Rabbit Projects and Spiritland,

Leisure facilities will include a large gym and workout studio, plus an outdoor pool with a sun terrace.

The design-led Locke Hotels brand was launched in 2016, named after 17th century English philosopher and physician John Locke.

The first London property opened on Leman Street in London’s Aldgate district, and the brand has since grown to six London hotels, as well as locations in Cambridge, Dublin, Edinburgh, Manchester, Berlin and Munich.

The brand recently opened its 15th property and first in Switzerland, with the unveiling of Locke am Platz in Zurich’s Enge quarter.
