In an effort to continue giving back to the community through its Media One Hotel Cares programme, the hotel will once again be installing their Ramadan Sharing Fridges at their Dubai Media City location throughout the month of Ramadan.

This is the fifth year that the annual initiative has been launched, and it once again aims to help blue collar workers break their fast after a day of hard work in the surrounding communities, providing them with a small nutritious snack or refreshing drink until they are able to have a proper meal, for free.

Hilton launches Green Ramadan initiative in UAE, Saudi and Qatar

The concept of Ramadan Sharing Fridges was first started by Australian expat Sumayyah Sayed in 2016, with an extra refrigerator she placed outside her house. She filled and regularly restocked it with beverages and healthy snacks such as fruit and dates, accompanied by a note for local workers to take what they need, and to remember to leave some for others. The idea spread widely across Dubai and the UAE, and has now become a common practice for those looking to help serve the workers in their communities during Ramadan, which is known as a month of giving.

The Media One Hotel Ramadan Sharing Fridge will be available at the hotel’s tower parking entrance from March 11 until the last day of Ramadan, and will be stocked by the hotel and the surrounding community alike, including building tenants and those working in the building. Items permitted alongside municipal health and safety regulations include bottled water, laban, and soft drinks, as well as dry fruit, yoghurt, and biscuits in sealed packaging – and due to the single-use and pre-packaged nature of the system, it is highly encouraged to provide items in sustainable packaging. This falls in line with Media One Hotel’s commitment to eliminating single-use plastic containers and utensils throughout the year.
