Emirates has announced plans for its fourth route to South America, with daily Boeing 777-300ER flights to Bogotá launching on 3 June.

The service will route via Miami, with the carrier stating that “Due to the high altitude of the city of Bogotá, it is not possible to operate a nonstop flight from Dubai, deeming a stopover necessary”.

Emirates added that Miami was chosen “due to its tourism and trade links with Bogotá”.

Flights will depart Dubai at 0215, arriving into 1005, before continuing onto Bogotá at 1235 and arriving at 1525. The return leg will leave the Colombian capital at 1725, arriving into Miami at 2215, before departing for Dubai at 0045 and landing at 2300.

Timings will alter slightly for the winter period from 3 November – see the table below for details.

Bogota will join Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires as Emirates’ fourth South American route, and “will establish a historic first-ever link between the greater Middle East region and the northern part of the South American continent”.

In total it will bring the carrier’s operations across the US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and Colombia to 19 routes.

The new service is being discussed on our forum, in particular the addition of premium seating products between Miami and Bogota.

Commenting on the news Sir Tim Clark, President Emirates Airline, said:

“We’ve long wanted to serve Colombia, and the addition of Bogotá to our network is part of our strategy to deliver better connectivity, expand options and choice for travellers and provide unparalleled premium experiences on the ground and in the air.

“The launch of our daily operations to the dynamic capital of Colombia also underscores our deep commitment to South America, and is poised to foster increased business and leisure travel opportunities for customers.

“There is a huge demand for travel to and from Bogotá and we can’t wait for customers to experience Emirates’ signature products and services on the flights between Bogotá and Dubai as well as between Bogotá and Miami.

“We would like to thank all the authorities involved for supporting our plans and making this new route possible. We look forward to adding value to the new communities served and building new partnerships to promote tourism and trade.”
