Finnair has announced plans to resume direct flights between Helsinki and Tartu in Estonia.

Located in southern Estonia, the city of Tartu has been named the European Capital of Culture 2024, with plans for 1,000 events over the course of the year.

Finnair will become the only airline operating to Tartu when its service launches on 31 March, 2024. The airline will operate flights 12 times per week using its regional ATR aircraft, with customers able to choose from twice daily flights (excluding Saturday). Return fares from London start from £212, including taxes and charges.

The new route will complement Finnair’s existing flights between Helsinki and Estonia’s capital, Tallinn, which currently operate up to ten times per day.

The flight time is approximately 40 minutes and schedules are as follows:

  • AY1047 departs Helsinki 1350, arrives in Tartu at 1435 (Mon-Fri and Sunday)
  • AY1045 departs Helsinki 2355, arrives in Tartu at 0040 the following day (Mon-Fri and Sunday)
  • AY1046 departs Tartu at 0600, arrives in Helsinki at 0640 (Mon-Sat)
  • AY1048 departs Tartu at 1500, arrives in Helsinki at 1540 (Mon-Fri and Sunday)

Anssi Partanen, Finnair Market Director Europe, said:

“As we get into the swing of 2024, we are incredibly excited to be announcing the return of Tartu to our growing network.

“As the only airline to offer scheduled flights to Tartu, we are proud to be connecting this youthful and vibrant university city with the world as it celebrates its new title as the European Capital of Culture.

“We know our customers are eagerly planning their trips for this summer, and expect this new service to be incredibly important to business travellers, families and friends, and of course leisure customers.”
